A History of Copy Protection

We live in a day and age where copy protection is a very hot topic. Movies, music, games…they are all impacted by software pirates, bootlegs, and the decisions companies produce to keep these folks out. Nintendo said that one of the reasons they went with their own proprietary media with the Cube was to better protect their software. Every company is sinking

major development dollars into figuring out how to protect their products, but most of that effort is done away with in just a few weeks. Most hackers see copy protection as a game in itself…and a large chunk of the community is out to beat it.
