The Wii: great for Nintendo, but not game pubs
Using EA’s fourth quarter revenue as a jumping point, an commentary is put together focusing on third party sales on the Wii. Have their been big success on the Wii? Yes, indeed there have…from first and third parties. Are third parties making a ton of money off of the Wii? Unfortunately, not so much. There are third parties who have struck gold a couple times, but the overall picture is still painted by Nintendo.
Why aren’t third party games selling? Well, first off, there are shovelware titles that just don’t deserve to ‘grace’ the platform. Second, consumers seem to be very fickle in some instances, while completely open in others. Carnival Games sells, but Zack and Wiki does not. Is that due
Perhaps it’s due to Wii owners that only want Nintendo titles. First party games sell like crazy, but third party offerings are largely ignored. Once again, I am forced to turn to Boom Blox. that is another AAA title for the Wii, which sounds like it is being ignored at retail. It is well on its way to joining other quality third-party efforts that are shunned by core Wii owners that only want Nintendo-produced composition.
Those are the only reasons I can think of. Can you guys come up with anything else?
