Trackmania DS interview

A portion of a 4cr interview with Dan Fletcher, TrackMania Project Manager, Firebrand Games…

4cr: How will sharing tracks work? Only with friends or will you have a database of tracks we can access?

DF: Tracks will be able to be shared locally with friends.

TrackMania DS won’t have online track sharing or online play, but it will come with a great suite of multiplayer options that will allow the player to play against their friends on both the official tracks and custom tracks that they have created!

TrackMania DS has the option of playing with up to eight players on one DS via the Hotseat mode”. It can plus be played with up to four players at the same duration using only one copy of TrackMania DS

through separate Card Download Play. Finally, it can be played by up to four players simultaneously using Multi-card Play, racing on either the official tracks, or any custom tracks that the players may have!

Obviously the community aspect is a big part of TrackMania on the PC and the features we have added to TrackMania DS stay true to that ethos. Given the portable nature of the DS, we’re encouraging fans of the game to meet, exchange tracks and race against each other directly. As great as online gaming can be, it never really matches the enjoyment of competition that comes when you and your friends are racing against each other in the same place!
